Simeon runs on your accounts, on your computer.

1. Who we are, and who we're not

Simeon is a study tool made by Samuel Truscott. In this page "Simeon", "we" and "us" mean that, and "you" means anyone who uses the website, the Chrome extension, the Mac app or the study page.

Simeon is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by:

• Instructure, which makes Canvas, or any school, university or college that uses it
• Anthropic, which makes Claude and Claude Code
• OpenAI, which makes ChatGPT and Codex
• Google (Chrome, Google Docs), Apple (macOS) or Ollama

Their names and logos belong to them. We use them only to say what Simeon works with.

2. What Simeon is

Simeon is a layer on top of tools you already have. It helps you:

• copy a course you can already see on Canvas down to your own computer
• have your own Claude Code or Codex read it and write a study plan into a page on your computer
• work through that plan and keep track of your progress

Simeon doesn't give you access to anything you couldn't already open yourself. It doesn't host your courses, and it doesn't provide the AI: that's your own subscription.

3. Privacy: what happens to your data

We've built Simeon so that we never receive your data. Here's where it goes, part by part.

The website

The homepage, the pitch and the demo are hosted by Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel keeps standard server logs (such as IP addresses and the pages requested) to run and protect the service, under its own privacy policy. The pages load no analytics, trackers, ads or web fonts, with one exception.

Buy Me a Coffee. Simeon is free. The homepage has a button to support it through Buy Me a Coffee, which loads from buymeacoffee.com once you've scrolled down the page. Buy Me a Coffee may receive your IP address and set its own cookies, and anything you give or type there is handled by them under their privacy policy. We only see what they show every creator: a supporter's name or message, if they choose to leave one. The study page, the pitch and this page don't load it.

Your progress

Your marks, ticks, timers and settings are saved in your own browser's storage on your own device. They're never sent to us. Clearing your browser's data for the page deletes them, and Progress → Export lets you keep a copy or move it to another browser.

The Chrome extension

The extension exports a course from Canvas when you ask it to. It works in your browser, with the Canvas login you already have, and saves the export as a zip in your Downloads folder.

• It asks for access to all websites only so it can download the files a course links to, which are often stored on other servers.
• It never sends your Canvas data, your login or your files to us.

The Mac app

The app works on your Mac. It reads the export, your own notes if you add them, and your plans where they are on your disk, and writes plans back into the Simeon folder.

• Building a plan, updating it, making flashcards and Ask Simeon run Claude Code or Codex, whichever you choose, signed in with your own account. What they read and send is handled by Anthropic or OpenAI under their terms and privacy policies. Please read them: Anthropic · OpenAI.
• The Local model option uses Ollama on your Mac, and nothing leaves your computer.
• Ask Simeon is off until you switch it on. It then listens only on your own computer (127.0.0.1) for questions from the Simeon page, and passes them to your assistant.
• Signing in to Canvas inside the app keeps that login on your Mac, as a browser does.

What we don't do

We don't sell, rent or share personal data, because we don't have any. We don't track you across sites, profile you, or use your courses to train anything.

Your rights

Under data protection laws such as the GDPR, you can ask what personal data someone holds about you, and ask them to correct or delete it. We don't hold any on our own systems. Everything described above stays with you, your browser, or the services you chose to use (Canvas, Anthropic, OpenAI, Vercel), each of which you can contact directly. 4. Your course material

What's on your Canvas (slides, readings, recordings, past papers, solutions, assignments) is usually protected by copyright. It belongs to your school, your lecturers or their publishers, not to you and not to us. Simeon only copies what your own account can already see, so that you can study it.

• Keep it for your own revision. Don't upload, share, sell or publish exported courses or the plans made from them, including by putting them on a public website.
• Follow your school's rules, including its rules on academic integrity, on using AI, and on downloading or processing course content. Some schools limit these. It's your responsibility to check what yours allows.
• Don't use Simeon to do graded work for you while that work is still open. Simeon is built to make those assignments tasks in your plan, not to answer them.
• Follow Canvas's terms of use, and those of Anthropic or OpenAI, as they apply to you.

5. What you do with Simeon is up to you

You choose which courses to export, which assistant to use, what to send it and how to use what it writes. You're responsible for those choices and for making sure you're allowed to make them.

6. AI can be wrong

Plans, model answers, marking points, flashcards and answers from Ask Simeon are written by AI from your course material. Simeon checks numbers by recomputing them and says where its questions come from, but mistakes still happen. Check anything that matters against your course and your lecturers. Simeon is a study aid: it doesn't replace your course, and it can't promise any result.

7. As it is

Simeon is provided free, "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We're not liable for lost data, lost progress, exam results, a breach of any school's or service's rules, or any other loss from using Simeon, except where the law doesn't allow that to be excluded. Nothing here limits rights you have that can't be limited by law.

8. Changes

If Simeon changes how it handles data, for example by adding an optional sign-in to sync your progress, we'll update this page before that feature arrives and change the date at the top.
